Help with transverse installation

My saab project has taken a new path, since the audi engine i was gonna fit now needs to stay in the car as my daily driver had to be scrapped. i now need a new engine and gearbox.

I have been pondering on fitting an engine transversely in the engine bay, its a tight fit wit h about 34 inches of room. Maybe a bit more with some fiddling, what engines and gearboxs will fit in this length?

This is why i was asking about XE dimensions, but am considering a saab 9000 engine. but my suspicion is that these will be too long. But what about a v6? how long is the v6 duratec for instance?

any help would be appreciated.

the problem is gearbox, what transaxle would work with a rotary? also i am trying to do this to a budget so i would imagine a rotary is out on that score tho it does sound like a good idea.....
