Why is Nr 4 oiled up
Taken the head of my 1.6 and Nr 4 is oiled up. Head was recon 500 miles ago with new seals.
Just out of interest, why would one cylinder oil up like this?

Does look like rings - is compression down?
In the picture - why have you stuck them to your hand?

May be worth double checking the stem seals on that cylinder though

Me money would be on a poor spark rather than rings, looks sooty and petroly rather than oily IMHO.
The HT lead would be first place Id look, followed by the lead caps then insulator and nose of the plug for hairline cracks.
Get a multimeter across No.4 plug lead and compare its resistance to the others.

He's got magnetic personality I'd go with rings. My nephew had a CVH with similar problems and the rings came out in pieces.

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Can't be the plugs... NGK? If you have made up some alternative length leads it may be continuity. Try taking out the plug and earthing it to
the block and observing spark/or not.

Photo's of block and head for interest.
I will check the spark because thats the bit I need working for the 2.0l. The rest will be up for offers. My thinking is rings.
I did wonder if the torx bolts were correctly torqued as my engine man says you should only use the splined ones. Probably should be OK on a standard
1.6 even though I did use the full rev range.

2 types of bolt used on the pinto, multi spline and torx, It really does not matter which are used. The multi spline were re uasable. the torx
sometimes needed replacing.
The photo's suggest a weakness in the rings on No 4 cylinder.
