V8 Inj no starting
Bit OT as its a Range rover not a locost but im sure i will get some decent ideas from you lot.
Aquired a B Reg V8 injected range rover with the added complication of a Gas conversion!
We have the fuel pump working
We have fuel where the rubber pipe joins the fuel rail.
We have plugs that smell of fuel
we have a spark when we ground a plug on the engine block
but we dont have any revs!
Can anyone confirm the firing order on this motor?
and which is number 1-8 cylinder?
Thats the only thing that i can see may be wrong and stopping it firing.............
Any other suggestions on what to check?

it's a long shot, but i had the same symptoms with a Hyundai 2.0 inj petrol engine.
had fuel, had spark and all the electrics checked out. The Cam Belt had snapped
engine turned over but would not fire up.
could be a sensor, crank sensor not working and thus not firing the spark when it should.

Strange thing is that the guy i got it from said it was running fine and he parked it up to replcae the fuel tank (the new one got as far as the back
seat) and he never got round to fitting it so just wanted shot of it.
Will see if i can check out the crank position sensor - somehow!

Thanks
Although the cylinders are ordered left hand and right hand, is that looking from the front of the car? and with number 1 being at the front?

Some range rovers had a fuel pump cut out that ran via the oil pressure switch. ie engine not running (no oil pressure), cut the fuel pump off.
Do you have enough fuel pressure? ie are you using a pump made for injection, as carbs are 6psi and injectors probably more like 50psi. There is a BIG
difference. Use the right pump.
No 1 Cylinder if the one right at the front. Its slightly in front of no 2 (on the other side of the V).
No Cam belt on a Rover V8 its a Chain.
I would feed a bit of Propane (or butane) gas from a blowlamp into the Inlet manifold, then see if it fires up. Especially if you have stale petrol.
Check the valves are opening ... look through the oil filler cap or remove the rocker covers to check (only 4 screws).
1. The point of a journey is not to arrive.
2. Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.

Good tips as usual guys
It was firing when i put some easy start down it but still wouldn't start on fuel.
Decided to put a battery from the other offroader on it and it fired up 1st time
Must not have been cranking fast enough.........

well not telling us a bout the duff battery didn't help
more likley the the jucie drawn by cranking the engine was tantalisingly not quite enough to ignite the mixture.
