Thermostat and cooling

if i understand the manual right, my 1600 pinto has a wax capsule thermostat to control flow to the radiator and a viscous coupling to control the fan. How do i go about incorporating a switch for an electric fan?

it looks like my engine has been fiddled at some point cos the hose out the top of the thermostat that should go to the expansion tank has been blocked off and that hose now comes from the radiator top hose.

do i need the fiesta housing like the book says, and will that include a hole for the switch?

thanks for any help!

The fiesta housing only applies to Xflow motors.

What radiator are you going to use? Some have a provision to mount a fan switch in them.

Otherwise, Premier Wiring (and others) offer a T piece that goes inline with a radiator hose which allows fitment of a switch.

i've found 3 potential radiators on ebay, from a nova, a c reg fiesta or a suzuki sj410.

suzuki one looks the best size but the others come with electric fans attached! will any of these be ok? my car is a little bit bigger than book so i have some leeway for a larger rad.

thanks for previous answers!

Blanked fitting.

The blank on the stat is on most of the Sierras. The return runs into a pipe instead, probably saved 10p worth of rubber pipe.

yours, Pete.

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.
