Golly, how annoying!

You know how it is, you have an engine with just the inlet manifold, so you put tissue in the pipework to stop crap getting in there.

Some time later, you take the plugs out to allow the engine to be turned over easily by hand so tdc can be ascertained.

How annoying would it be to find tissue in the cylinders, when you can distinctly remember taking it out!

No, I'm not taking the heads off! I'll try and hook it out, then vacuum, and any left will get a couple of drops of petrol and a match.

And I thought things were going well. 2008's off to a good start.

Happy New Year

It's meebbe a bit late for the tip of the day but we stuff the empty orifices with Tesco carier bags leaving a little loop of the handle hanging out.

Recent tests done by a bloke driving a car with a mask on have shown that the tensile strength of a tissue is less than the Tesco carrier!
It can only get better!!!!

The really annoying thing is I remember removing it. I can only think I must have stuffed the head ports with it when I didn't even have the manifold on!

Ho hum, as they say.

Could be worse!!
I put a rag into the inlet manifold to stop crap getting in. I then bolted the carb on and started the engine. Unbelievably, it ran but very rough.
We tried for nearly 10 mins messing with mixture screws to get it to run properly all to no avail.
Eventually the offending cylinder was identified and the plug removed to find bits of rag in the cylinder!
Now, you know that feeling you get when you realise what you've done.......
Head off time, the rag had somehow wrapped itself around the inlet valve and was poking out of the exhaust port.
I was very lucky in that save a little valve lapping, no damage was done at all, and the engine is still going strong after 20k miles!!
