zx9r bike carbs on a pinto

well i have made my manifold, and fitted it today
main jets are at 1.6mm

i can get the car to idle, on the 'choke', but it wont idle once warm, without the choke
if i rev it, and manage to get it over ticker, it revs ok...
am thinking either too small idle jets or they are blocked
anyone know which ones they are ?

or... if i am talking out of my backside, what do you think the problem is ??

Bike carbs don't have a choke as such, it's more like an "enrichment device". Basically a valve that opens and lets fuel pour in!

David Jenkins found a very useful link, to an American site in this thread:-

http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=75155

Direct linky:-

http://www.gadgetjq.com/keihin_carb.htm

Which may prove helpful.

Cheers

Idle speed too low? On the ZZR carbs there is a six inch long black cable (like a bike brake cable) with a threaded adjuster on the end. Try turning that to increase the idle speed a little.

happy new year mark
thanks for your vote of confidence

have tried altering the idle speed... it seems to run smootest at idle with it near enough fully off, and when i screw the idle in it get progressivly rougher running

Sounds like the carbs are out of balance.

Hi Dave this is how bogg brothers set my carbs they are zx9r /e carbs
1 drill main jets to 1.7mm
2 fit two washers under the needle heads
3 turn the air screws out one turn
4 block the air hole that is in line with the needles looking from the air box side of the carbs

my engine is a 2l with
1 head skimmed by 1mm polished etc
re board to max
piper cam 285
light flywheel
zx9r/e carbs
it has 140bhp at the rear wheels that's on bogg brothers r/road
it has a modified dizzy from H&H ignition solution's
i hope this helps
try ringing Bogg Brothers they are very helpful even if you make your manifold like i did

Dave which model carbs have you got the
B /C carbs are different to the E carbs
i must advise you to get them set up on a r/road before hard driving
Bogg Brothers is the place to have this done

The E model have cvr on the end of the carbs + there round were the air filter fits
B/C carbs are oval were the air filter fits
I think it has CVk on the end
