Zetec - type 9, bellhousing and clutch / flywheel
Hi,
I currently have a Vauxhall C20NE engine connected to a type 9 gearbox. I will be replacing the engine with a phase 3, 2.0l Zetec, keeping the type 9
gearbox.
What options do i have on the bellhousing i use to join the two together? Is there a lightweight one that i can use?
Similarly, what options do i have in terms of flywheel and clutch? My current plan is to source a std 1.8 flywheel and clutch.
Does anyone have any recommendations on uprated versions that i could use?

Welcome to the forum first of all
I don't have any recommendations for you unfortunately, I was wondering if you would be selling your current vauxhall to type 9 bellhousing?
I might be interested if it is the same bolt pattern as an XE.

iv just done a clutch on a 1.8 zetec - the standard zetec friction plate spline diameter was too small had to use a pinto one which is the same
diameter (215mm) same thickness (9mm) and matches the type 9 splines.
watch for release bearing / clutch adjustment - not sure if mines gonna work yet - still working on it should do tho.. you will need a longer release
bearing 41mm - sorry dont know the part no.
type 9 bell housing goes straight on a zetec but you might have to cut the tin crud plate that goes between a bit - i had to trim around the back of
the sump area of the plate a bit - (raceline sump)
also watch out for the spiggot bearing on the end of the crank lots of people have said to me to put one - mine was already fitted to the crank - it
has a 15mm internal diameter - the nose of my box has 14.7 dia to fit - the burtons one is smaller at 13mm be careful and check cos its a bugger to
get out if wrong - you could chop off the shaft nose mind..

If you can find one a RS 2000 bell housing is lighter as are the ones Rallydesign sell although a standard cast bell housing would fit . If you want a
standard one I have one in the shed you can have if your local. Cost of p&p would be high

Thanks for the help so far!
Everytime i think about it i become even less decisive about what to buy!!!!!!
Im reluctant to buy another flywheel and clutch as i already have new 2.0l ones but i just dont want them that heavy.
Sounds like the 1.8 flywheel and new clutch are the way to go.
:{THC}:YosamiteSam - what starter motor are you using on your setup?
SALAD - yep, i will be getting rid of the bell housing, the engine is the 2.0 8v C20NE, ive no idea if the bolt pattern is the same tho.
rusty nuts - one of these?

I would need to modify this to fit into the trannie tunnel, but i like the sound of weight savings

been told the cvh starter is the way to go - the sierra pinto does not fit - the pinion throw is wrong and the body is too wide - it fouls the sump
