Rover V8 ALternator location
How have all the folks here with RV8's mounted their alternators? I've just fitted mine on the std SD1 (underslung infront of CYL 2) mount
but can't swing it out far enough to take up the slack in the fan belt (P/N QBA 1175) before it hits the chassis (Luego Viento).
I'm hoping to find a belt that is a few cm shorter and try again but was curious as to what other people had done incase that doesn't
work. Photos would be great if there are any about.

I'm afraid it's going to be a case of get alternator where you want it, then get an old (too long) fan belt, cut and trim to length and
stick/tape together, then go to Halfords or suchlike and you should be able to come up with something close enough.

Something worth checking is air conditioning belts.
I fit them when I maintain them.
You should be able to get them from RS or do a search online.
They have numbers on them e.g 1120 is 1120mm circumference.
They can be bought in either Vee or Vee toothed.

Aha - I'm guessing that means the 1175 on the end of the part number is 1175mm (sort of obvious when you think about it but that escaped me at
first!), looking at the rover part of a catalogue I found on google there are a few other RV8 belts (inc PAS and AC belts) which are a few cm shorter,
hopefully that should do me!
I'll hack up the one I have to work out what length I need then head back to the shops.

yes. go to halfords and their V and flat belts all are part numberede according to length.
buy a couple and keep your receipt; then get a refund for the one that is too long/short.

and the A after the no stands for the cross section for a v pully.
I remade the brackets for the alternator on my v8 and got it nice and low hugging the block. Belt no was Halfords 812A from memory i think

There are three or four Rover Alternator Brackets, and these will depend on which front timing cover and water pump you are using.
There is also a nice bracket from Pop Browns for about £40 which allows the alternator to be fitted on the lower left hand side below Cylinder No1.
(Best option,. but not the cheapest)

The also do a fan belt for that configuration. However, as already stated Half Frauds do them with their length as part of the part number.
You can always make your own bracket. Which is what I did, albeit not that successfully. I will be redoing it, to stop the fanbelt chafing on the
Water pump inlet hose, when the belt is a bit slack. There is very very little clearance there, hence moving the alternator over to the LHS will
prevent that completely.
Just my 2D worth.

I made a bracket as here and just found a short belt to suit. The bracket picks up on two of the front cover bolts and two existing threaded bosses in
the side of the block
