who's running a x20xe?

itchy spanner fingers time again and i'm thinking of ditching the pinto in my indy.

anyone here using a vauxhall x20xe engine or similar? how easy are they to fit in and get running? what transmission mates up to it? how did you go about the fueling and ignition side of things? most importantly what can i expect to spend? i know there's the obvious things like engine mounts and exhuast manifold i will need to change but it's always the little bits that add up!

built a car, built a home, had a family. lost the family, lost the home, still got the car.

It depends on what spec. The easiest way is to find a 5 speed vauxhall box from a manta or some omegas are supposed to fit. Failing that type nine ford plus a bellhousing conversion.
Sump from a manta or one of the aftermarket ones. Ignition you can use a dizzy and coil pack off an astra or better to use megasquirt. Mounting easy to make use ford rubbers.
So price wise say Box £100 or £200 if using ford, Clutch say £60
Engine £250
Sump £150
ignition £200-450
Exhaust £250
That will give you a rough ball park could cost more could be less. drive wise fantastic but a good zetec is often cheaper and in the real world driving on the road they are just fine

Hi,
I am just finishing of my XE install, not sure about the Indy but mine was a relatively uneventful install.I changed from a CVH and asked for advise from the factory (mines a DaxRush)and they advised me to strip the car and take the bare chassis to them.I thought bugger that and had a go myself (with help from fellow Locostbuilders)and It hasnt realy been a problem.
Mines mated up to a Type9 gearbox you need a bellhousing for this but they are redaly available,I bought a exhaust manifold flange, cut of the old flanges from my old exhaust and welded on the new flange.
I have ditched the original EFI and fitted R1 bike carbs with a mega jolt ignition.
Its not going to be cheap, mines in the region of 2k my engine is a bit special so that was half the budget and I wasted some money with the Turbo shop but thats another story, but then I saved on the exhaust, luckily it exited on the same side.
If you have any specific questions ask away, also do a search on here.

I have one. I had no trouble fitting it. Plumbing was the most difficult. Mine is is an ST chassis for which they supplied the mounts and I would have no trouble making a set again. All my parts came new from SBD inc bellhousing, clutch, thrust, release arm etc mated to a BGH type 9. I am on Dellortos 45mm/ 42mm chokes on a full race head. H&H ignitions have modified a standard ( non ecu ) dizzy to my spec engine and have supplied as a kit. Dave at Powerspeed Auto made a one off stainless 4 2 1 equal length primary exhaust.
It certainly is powerfiul and with all the other internal work that I have had done as these are very tuneable engines.
