R1 4XV Gear Change, Engine Revs Up issue

Having driven to the SVA Test today (and passed, Linky to First Time Pass Post ) I have noticed that i seem to have a bit of an issue when changing gear, with the engine revving up 1-2 thousdand revs . It seemed to get slightly worse driving there which was in total about 40 miles. And then driving home it was equally as bad and no worse. Its very strange the revs just dont seem to drop down fast enough, and if i change quickly that actually shoot up.

Even though i have clipped the throttle cable im pretty certain it isnt sticking, but am now wondering if i need to be using the original bike twin cable open/close cable setup, or a heavier return spring?

Or

I am guessing it could be something to do with the throttle position sensor, although a mate of mine reckons it could be to do with dirty carbs where the throttle flappy bits(cant remember the name) arent closing properly.

Any views most welcome.

Cheers,

You almost certainly need to increase the return spring.
Either by an extenal pull spring or a cabled spring, to compensate for the extra weight/length of the car pedal and cable.

I did 7500 miles in my R1 Striker without a second return spring or a return cable, so you don't really need them. I would make sure that your pedal isn't sticking, that your cable is well-lubed and routed and your carbs are clean. The butterflies should snap shut - the return cable is only there to stop Mr Yamaha from being sued due to owners not looking after their bikes!
