I'd go for a mechanical gauge every time, but I hate wiring!

I typed in reply but was not signed in so lst it all, now am quite angry
summary
- decision depends on whether you want it to match other gauges; mech have pointer pivot in centre; elec have pivot at 6 o'clock
mech needs no power and a bit less accurate than electrical but can display without igniton on i.e. water temp
mech not susceptible to electrical gremlins and no affected by a good soaking
BUT if you want to remove dash, then elec is undoing 2 wires whereas mech needs to have sender unscrewed from the block.
if capillary breaks or comes away from the oil guage, you get oil everywhere - no need to ask how I know that - but the amount of oil coming out is
not huge so you will get home.
