fuel return hose
I plumbed in the fuel vapour separator by just running a fuel line down to the fuel supply before the fuel pump.
I think I have got this wrong as the engine only gets fuel when I clamp this hose. If I don't then the fuel just does a loop and never gets up
to th carbs.
Presumably if I don't have a fuel retrn pipe then I could end up over fuelling. Should I be looking to restrict this pipe in some way or have I
connected everything up wrong?

Do you have a sketch of the fuel circuit?
Do you have carbs or throttle bodies?
I don't think you need a fuel return line if you are using carbs. You'll need a fuel pressure regulator if you are using an electric fuel
pump.

right.
It's a 2 litre pinto with twin weber dcoe 40s.
The original car had a different car and was fitted with the vapour separator thing.
The way it is set up at the moment is tank - filter - mechanical fuel pump - vapour separator - carbs
the other pipe of the separator goes down to just before the fuel filter.
Will put up a photo tomorrow

This was the separator in my donor. Note the return is much narrower than the other two - you may need to restrict yours.
Vapour separator
But I'm sure people have said you don't need it anyway - I don't plan to.
