Zetec Blacktop Oil

I'm using Halfords fully synthetic 5w40 in my Zetec 1.8.

Its a bit noisy as per my previous post.

Could the oil be the issue? What do people generally use in Blacktops?

Cheers

Stu

I'm using Miller XFS 5w40 in my blacktop 2.0. Seems pretty good to me. Much less noise than the old Xflow.

I've just got some castrol 5w-30 for my 1.8 blacktop (just what the book says) - but it is only a standard tin-top.....

If you used the wrong oil in our mondy 1 it ran like a dog missing all the time.

Oil could definitely be a problem - zetecs are especially susceptible to noise for some reason.

Use the recommended GTX Stuff (0Wsomething I think) every time in mine and quiet as a mouse....

I'll change it and see what happens - I'm not very hopeful that a change of oil will fix it but I want to take the sump off anyway to check the crank isn't hitting the pickup pipe so I'll give some 5w30 a go.

Cheers

Think I put 10w/40 in my silvertop and it performs fine. Something cheap anyway and not especially thin or thick. I begrudge paying 35 quid for oil as it's more than i paid for the car.
Mind you i didn't know there was an issue with using oil that was too thick at the time and also i hadn't planned to put it in the locost either.
Sorry to hijack the thread but what's the thinnest oil u guys would use in a mildly tuned crossflow assuming it has all been meticulously put back together? More worried about oil leaks than engine protection here.
