BMW engines

anyone on here happen to know if the later 1.8 DOHC bmw engine (M42) is directly interchangeable with the earlier 1.6 (M40) engine? Im seriously considering doing a swap either now or later as it is stock 40 more BHP which in a light car is worth alot!

If so could anyone tell me what parts are interchangeable if anyone knows? Are the mounting points the same? Gearbox the same? Flywheel? Clutch? ECU? hopefully someone can help me out, if not anyone know any good bmw forums which could help me out?

Thanks guys
