Zetec Blacktop Noise Again

Further to my previous post:

Link to previous thread

I've had the sump off to check the pickup pipe, and changed the oil to 5w30 semi synthetic.

As I expected the noise is exactly the same.

I took the cam cover off today and everything is very clean, with no excessive valve clearances.

Could it be that the vavle timing is out and a valve is touching a piston?

Anyone know where the valve timing marks are on a blacktop [if they have any]?

Any other suggestions welcome.

Thanks

Stu

On the sivertop and I quess the blacktop, the cams are "timed" by placing a bar across the gearbox end of bothe shafts when the engine is at TDC the slots in the cams are off centre so they can only go in one way. Laser sell a tool to hold the camshafts and the drive pulleys.
This is on the standard engine btw.

The bottom of the pistons aren't touching the oil squirter jets are they? That's about the only thing I can think of that you haven't looked at. You'll need to take the sump off again though....

I've just checked the valve timing and its spot on.

Not sure about the oil squirter jets touching the pistons.

What do the oil jets look like?

Other than shortening the sump and pickup I haven't touched anything else down there.

I think I'll just wait until 1st of May when it'll be taxed and take it out for a thrash and see what happens!

Thanks

Does the sump have an crank scraper? If so is it possible it got distorted whilst shortening the sump and pick-up pipe and one of the big ends is just touching it?

No, its a focus 2 part sump, so no way the crank can hit anything.

I've just warmed it up and the noise changes quite a bit, so I don't think its anything being hit. More like some wear somewhere.

As you have shortened the sump & pickup is it possible thecrank is now touching on the pickup?
