gearlever extension

just planning things for the weekend as it looks like normal weather for a bank holiday and was planning to fit the gearlever remote extension i just bought.
When i offered it up to the gearbox it looks like i will have to cut the housing to fit the lever. Is this right. All help gratefully received.

you shouldn't have to cut the gearbox to fit it, you may have to remove the blanking plate on the end, but that about it.

Assume we are talking about a type 9 gearbox it just a bit of a juggle to get it into place

This puzzled me, until I realised you remove the circular disc at the tail of the gearbox. It pops out quite easily.

Remember also, you have to take a plastic U-shaped thingy off the shaft in the gearbox and fit it to the corresponding place on the extension.
