06 R1 can't start

Engine was running, during a drive engine cut. When ignition turned on pump does not prime. All start and pump relays checked. With pump running still will not start. When engine is spun it makes sounds as though trying to start. What can I check next? Thanks Winston

Are you using the standard R1 clocks? if so are there any ECU codes?

Has you wiring come lose from the side stand wire?

Have you checked the fuses in the starter relay, as there are 2 in there.

Have you tried holding the starter button down to see if it starts, and runs whilst the button is held in

If the pump is not priming, how are you then running the pump?

I only know the R1 5PW (02-03) but I imagine that the later engines have a similar cutout relay.

The relay will only allow the engine to start (i.e. enable the fuel pump relay and ignition) if the following conditions are met:

1. If sidestand is down, gearbox must be in neutral

2. If sidestand is up, either engine must be in neutral OR clutch must be pulled in

On a car, the sidestand switch and clutch switch are shorted so I would suspect the neutral switch.

You should also check that you have spark and fuel the usual ways.

Nick
