Type 9 box selection problem

I am beginning to think I am cursed with my pinto to Xe conversion on my F27!

I have now discovered this evening that I cannot select 2nd or 4th gear on my type 9 box .
I have seperated the box once ( to replace the clutch fork( wrong one fitted)
(gear selection was fine afterwards)
When installing the box and engine the reverse light switch plug was damaged and I unbolted it - fixed it and replaced it- checked reverse light all working -great i thought,
now I have just sorted out an awkward airlock in the cooling system and balanced the carbs , I sat in the car for a play , and now I cant select 2nd or 4th gear - all other gears are fine -
would removing and refitting this reverse switch cause this??
any helpful suggestions appreciated
I'm beginning to think I wont get a drive in this summer!!!

Did you take the top off the gearbox?

If you didn't get the disc bit in place properly when putting it back on it could cause this.

don't ask me how I know this

Cheers

No the one I'm on about is under the top cover - it might be worth checking if you haven't run the gearbox before, but if you have it must be something else.

cheers

It's not something as daft as the lever fouling on the hole in the tunnel so it wont pull back far enough?

While you have the top off the tunnel take the gearlever out and check for debris AND also the saddle over the selector

Checked it out today- Dusty - top man!!!
yep it was the hole in the tunnel cover -I needed to move it back a further 20mm to allow gear selection
wot a numpty!!!
I didnt check it , after I had done the pinto to xe change!
thought the g/box was in the same place!
I took the g/lever off too and checked for debris - all well.
Thanks for all the help troops once again
I can get it ready for the mot now!
