Type nine quickshift
Has anyone fitted one of Rally design's type nine quickshifts. There seems to be three kits available. "Competition",
"Quiet", and a full Competition lever.
From the photos on the website, I cant figure out what the bits and bobs do. I know the object of the exercise is to raise the lever pivot point.. but
what's the lever "extension" for? and why no extension with the "quiet" kit??

Yes, I know about that one.. It's just at £11 for the cheaper kit option, I thought it wasn't worth bodging up my present lever, with
the risk of knackering it completely.
Would also be interested to hear from anyone who's done the Locost mod.

If you look at my website you'll see how I combined Dave Andrews' 'quickshift' with my design for a gear-lever extender to
move the stick 5 or 6 inches further back.
No detailed drawings, but not too hard to work out. Several people on this forum have successfully made a copy.
If you don't need the extension (ooer, missus!) then I can vouch for Dave Andrews' modification - it really does work. You might like to
try it on a stick from the scrappy though - if you're successful with the mod on the scrappy stick, then you can sell the original one - they
have value, these days.
BTW: Don't try to shift a type 9 box too fast - they don't like it and may wear out prematurely if you're too harsh.

Hi Andy,
I have done the locost mod to reduce the travel of the lever when I changed my dash, works well.Just less movement and a bit stiffer.
If you always do what you have always done you will always get what you have always got

That's one of my main concerns. I can allready beat the synchromesh with a "slow" shift, so is it all worth it..

The biggest benefit is that it'll stop you cracking your knuckles on the dash!
It's not a matter of beating the synchro though - too-fast gearchanges done too often can result in broken baulk rings.

No problems with the dash / knuckle thing.. I get a bit of a bang changing up quickly from 2nd to 3rd I think, usually when changing at 7000rpm. I
dont think the standard gearbox likes that treatment, so the plan is to change it for an uprated BGH or similar, when it expires.
