Zetec crank and con rod

Does anyone know if the con rods and crank are interchangable between 1.8 and 2.0 silver tops.

I have had a bearing failure in my 2.0 which damage the crank and one rod. I have a 1.8 crank and con rod lying in the garage so i thinking of using them.

ATB

con rod

Was you running arp rod bolts, as i had the same thing and found out this is a week spot on the zetec.
I thing that you can interchange them as piston size is different.

What was your rev limit? It's the rpm which causes them to fail normally. I have mine set to 7200 and mine have been OK. Read about a bloke with a turbo fitted and still on standard bolts all OK.

A local engine builder (who has a very good reputation) reckons he's never had Zetec let go up to 8000RPM with heavy duty rod bolts.

According to my megasquirt logs (I was actually logging when i blew the engine) so was the max rpm 6600.

Last night i removed the pistons. On one of the pistons a big chunk of metal fell off. it came form between the first and the second ring.

I have no sign of "detonation" marks on the piston top.

The head is skimmed 1 mm but as i heard it should be ok.

The saga continues

If you use ARP rod bolts check to see if they match the caps as the caps are square and the bolts have chamfers in the corner of the head so the caps need machining to tighten properly.

There were no detonation marks on the crown of this piston either, apart from the slightly melted top ring land...
