XE into mk2 cavalier

i know this is pretty off topic, but i've seen time and again how much knowledge there is of the XE on here.

it's my dad's project but he bought the engine off ebay. it came from a calibra with a GM head and distributorless ignition.

the major bind we've come up against is trying to keep the power steering and the engine mount too.
the mounting bracketry from the SH block fits, but fits to the exact same bolt holes as the power steering bracket from the calibra and the tensioner for the auxillary belt.
he's got a power steering pump and rack from a mk2 cavalier that fits to the bottom of the block, however it's on a v belt. we also have a mk3 pump and rack from an NZ engine but it has a 5 rib multi v belt.
finally, we have the calibra pump with all associated unusable bracketry but no rack or pipework. this has a 6 rib multiv belt that matches the bottom pulley.

right, now to the actual problem. the double v pulley that my dad has on his 1.8SH engine has 4 bolt holes to attach it to the crank pulley. the calibra crank pulley has 6 boltholes. are the 2 crank pulleys interchangable so we can use the SH crank pulley on the XE?

also, if needed, can we run a 5 rib belt on a 6 rib pulley to integrate the mk3 pump?

if you can pick a logical answer out of that lot, i'd be so very grateful

cheers
tom

I am being nagged at to get to bed so quick answer, but the earlier XE's had a two groove standard vee belt crank pulley with the 6 holes....I prob have one somewhere, and may well have a vee belt drive pas pump too.

Sorry I'm not an expert on Vauxhall parts, but a possible solution to the steering pump is to use an electric one from e.g. a Saxo/106 or Merc. A Class. Quite a popular solution for retrofitted power steering.

Having read it again properly, I would try the early XE "normal vee belt" type crank pulley (which has two vee belt grooves in it) and use that to drive the mk2 cav pas pump and an earlier XE alternator (as these also has std vee belt drive)

cheers nat. hoped you might give me some clue.

we've got all 3 styles of alternator and bracket but it needs the mk2 alternator bracket to give the back engine mount something to attach to. we've swapped the pulleys and it looks like we can get alignment with the v belt.

my dad's apparently off to a scrapyard with some xes sometime soon, but if you did happen to have that double v bottom pulley to hand, i'm sure my dad'd be very happy to exchange it for beer tokens for you.

cheers
tom
