Ignition wires again

Following on from a recent posting from Gary (bittern hero), whats the final answer?. I asked a simular question about HT leads. I found you can buy HT wire at motorcycle shops and cut them to the required length, but I was told on here that they must be marked "suppressed" for SVA at every 120mm. I was also told that silicon were the best, also on here. But looking at Gary's answers they were the oppposite. I am now confused, can you change the length of HT leads? Is silicon best? and what about SVA, can anyone clarify please?

Barry, ChrisS's car passed at gillingham fitted with ht lead supplied by vwp unmarked black lead looks close to the original.
Think you might struggle to fit silicone leads as these are normally a larger diameter.
