V6 Duratec

Hi All,

Anyone used a V6 Cougar (2.5L V6) engine for their build before? At 200 BHP it cant be a bad choice. What gearbox would it run?

O

There was a bloke on here, IIRC, and found out that you need the S type box and sump. Which isn't cheap, but might be easier than making a bell housing up. Although for the first bloke that does and gets a batch cast up could well make a few bob.....

Have to say though, I test drove a Couger down here in Brissie and thought it was particularly gutless, even my little Satria GTi pulls better.

However, perhaps with half the weight it would go better.

same question was here: http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=88067

Looks like a TR7 5 speed gearbox bolts straight up, though i don't know what it's off.

<------- I've got the mondeo st24 in this running a cosworth t5 gearbox & bellhousing with adaptor plate.

Avoid the cougar engine, it's different, all imperial apparently due to it being american.

You can use the jag gearbox with a custom bellhousing, i know someone who has had one made up. Not cheap though.
