Radiator questions
My parents are leaving for the UK at the end of the week and I have been looking at radiators.
I have looked through the archives and come to the conclusion that the polo radiator is the way to go.
My Father a ex mechanic , finds it hard to believe that a radiator out of a 1.1ltr polo will do the job in my 1.8 ltr Nissan.
I see most people are using these on all kind of motors from z tech's to v8's.
Getting one from the UK is a far cheaper way to go .
Do you think it will be the way to go ??
$300 to get a radiator made here or 27 pounds for a Polo radiatorwhich works out to be about $70 here. best of all they will be about half a hour from
Autokool who seem to be the best for price on Ebay.
Any advice would be appreciated
Cheers

I can only give you my example to back up the Polo rad. Now my engine is only a 1.6 so for most of the time the demand won't be that great to
remove heat. However if you factor in the supercharger on my car then under hard acceleration the engine is putting out quite a bit of power peaking
at 260BHP at 7000RPM. Again the heat load is usually short and the coolant will absorb the heat spike and realease it later. So I would say on track
would be the best test. On the couple I've done the temp has stayed stable at just under 90 deg C which is the same as on road so yep for me the
polo rad works.
I've got two types one is the more common flat bar and fin which is fitted. The other is a tube and fin which will be less restrictive but until
I test it I'm not sure if it will be better at removing heat?

It certainly work fine in mine. I've had a 1.8cvh and now Zetec on bike carbs and the temp is very stable.
I'm using the old Sierra fan as well, with the housing cut down to fit the Polo rad, so it's not the most effecient fan set up.
Mine has shown no signs of getting warm at all, whether ticking over for ages or being thrashed.
Make sure you get the correct Polo one as they aren't all the same.

The "right" one is usually the smaller MK1 version which will probably be also listed as being for a VW Derby. Apparently the newer ones
might be rather snug in the nose cone.
How they going to get it back to New Zealand though?? Don't you guys have suitable donors or scrappers over there???????

I hope it will fit in a suitcase. I have done alot of looking around and can't seem to find anything.
Euro cars like the VW are very $$$$ for parts and would struggle to find a radiator.
Nissan Micra is a car that I just can't find in a wreckers.
Most cars in our wreckers are Jap imports and the radiator is usually the bit that has been in a crash.
