Induction Noise

I am running a Fireblade with Pipercross sock air filters. As Elvington trackdays are now limited to 98DB I have a problem as I run out at 101DB. Spoken to somebody who said that if I can reduce my induction noise that would help considerably. Any ideas how this is done?

As above, only use socks if there's no other option, too restrictive.

Make an airbox that fits under the bonnet. Make the inlet to the airbox face forwards. It "projects" the sound away from the noise meter.

above the resonant frequency of the box, the inlet port becomes "accoustically opaque" meaning that the noise doesn't get out, although noise gets out through the case. Make the inlet port fairly long and with a large diameter. Make the pipe perforated, line it with blue seating foam and fit a larger tube round it, with ends to seal. It acts like an inlet silencer. I make my induction road noticeably quieter, say 10dB or so.

Don't use an exhaust silencer. You don't want to suck any of the wadding into your engine. Also, you don't want the weight of a metal silencer.

Noise

Sounds good, I don't have the original air box, and I had to re-jet the carbs to bigger jets to balance the fule going in. I will cast about for an air box or try building one myself.

many thanks.
