Zetec Inlet Manifold

The dumb question of the day., please be gentle.....

I am intending on replacing my dead pinto with a zetec in the near future as they are really common now and reasonable prices.

However, I havent really got the funds to convert to throttle bodies or purchase some DCOE's.

But!!!!!

When i first fitted my pinto, i fitted a brand new 32/36 DGV carb.

Here comes the stupid question.

Can i get a inlet manfold to suit this carb for a zetec?

Cheers

B...

Not a Dumb question at all, This is a really popular mod in the banger seen as the new mondeo rods arnt allowed to race with Fi.

These are sold on ebay for £100

That said its not hard to make your own,

One I made earlier

And one Ive not yet finished.

The inlet plate is 6mm steel and comes from short track 123 on here for about £18.

Scafolding pipe has a 40mm ID which when squashed in a vice matches the inlet port nearly exactly.

With a few other ofcuts you have a manifold for £20.

The ignition can be run for about £5.

Power out put is claimed by the guys I have spoken to to equal a standard Fi engine.

That said if you get a pre pats ecu it is mega easy to run your engine on the standard efi. And that probally came free with your engine.
The advantage of this is the fuel system is ready to go when you can aford your TB's and squirt.

Just my 2 bob.

I fitted bike carbs to my Zetec, costs as follows:

Respaced zx6r carbs £30
ZX6R carb rubbers £5
5mm Ali plate £12
Nuts & bolts £2

And the dearest bit:

Air filter £60.

Not as cheap as Big Wasa's, but pretty low cost if you can source a cheaper air filter - I got fed up looking and wanted my car on the road so bought a new one from Burtons.

2 x adapter plates

Needs one from the manifold to the carb aswell.

Manifold in pic is from a cvh xr3i.

You want a thick adapter from head to manifold to allow some porting.

Without wishing to be rude a log manifold with sharp right angled bends is not going to flow anything like as well as the standard plenum.

But you dont have the emisions crap pushing Co into the manifold instead of Oxygen.

The standard ecu and manifold nocks 30 bhp off a standard engine.

So a poor flow manifold could well flow enough to equal a 30bhp drop.
