Type 5 and Type 9 Gearboxes

Does anyone know if the type 5 box I have has the same bolt pattern as a V6 type 9 so I can just swap my bellhouse from one to the other giving my Essex 5 gears instead of 4?

well the v6 bolt pattern is the same as all the other type 9's BUT the input shaft length is different (v6 being longer)

Bellhousing recess for the selector rail out the front will be different as the type 5 is 3 rail. Also 6 bolt instead of 4 for the type9.

Consul/Granada Bellhousing required

Normal is getting dressed in clothes that you buy for work and driving through traffic in a
car that you are still paying for - in order to get to the job you need to pay for the clothes
and the car, and the house you leave vacant all day so you can afford to live in it.

I guess your best bet would be a type 9 from a 2.8 (long input shaft and V6 bellhousing)
but I'm not sure if this will fit or not

I think the questions should be:

Does the Essex 3.0 V6 have the same bolt pattern as the Taunus/Cologne 2.8/2.9 V6 ?

and how do the input shaft lenghts compair? (relative to the bellhousing length)

Thanks for the info. Seems to rule out Using existing bellhousing/clutch/etc with just a change of box.

So as the previous poster says my next question is.....

Does the Cologne have the same bolt pattern as the essex?

If so would I need to change flywheel/clutch/starter etc?

Essex bellhousing>engine bolt pattern is different to a cologne if that's what you mean.

V6 Cologne bellhousing>gearbox bolt patterns are the same as normal type 9's (2.0l etc)

As mentioned in my other post you need a consul/granada bellhousing

Have a look at the 5 speed conversion info page HERE
