fuel pump problem

I tried to start my 03 R1 today but there is no fuel making it to the engine from the fuel pump

when I turn the key the pump starts ok but constantly runs with no fuel making it to the engine

The fuel filter is just before the pump (bosch) and there is plenty of fuel in it so I know there is fuel going in but there does not seem to be any coming out the other end

has anyone come across this problem ?

Is the pump directional..?
Is it definately in the right way and the electrics connected with the correct polarity?

It could be trying to pump backwards maybe

Then you tend to get a bubbling noise from the fuel tank... apparantly..... accourding to someone I know......

If it constantly runs it means it's not building up pressure. Normally it'll run until the floats are full then stop (assuming a 03 R1 has carbs??). Sounds like the fuel isn't getting to the pump!!!
