Cleaning a Zetec top
hi everybody,
I am just about to start cleaning up the top of my Zetec (silver top) ready for painting and was wondering what is the best way to clean them.
i would imagine a sand blast would be ideal but i don't have access to one.
Its got that horrid white flaky stuff around the edge and in the corners.
Cheers.

i would take it to a machine shop and have them acid dip it, then you can clean it then spray straight over the top

A wire brush and engine oil smartened my tintop zetec one up. Gets rid of the white fungus very well and doesn't leave the scratch marks I
expected. If it was for the locost i'd then use solvol autosol to polish and then leave it at that. If you are going to paint anyway just wire
brush then paint.
Beadblasting would probably be best but that's not very Locost.

What is it made from?
Previously I have used any of the following to clean oily/greasy parts:
Gunk
Cilt bang
Dishwasher
Diesel
Swafega (sp)
Some are more suited to certain materials/finishes than others.
