18 16v astra question
hi my mate just got a w plate astra 18 16v sport thats not runnig right ,so i took it to a guy to plug it in to see what the problem was he told us we
need a new ecu and new throttle body as the throttle body has caused the problem with the ecu
my question is can i just change the throttle body or will this case more trouble with the ecu as he cant aford the £350 for a new ecu at this time
but i can get him a throttle body from a mate who owns a scrap yard for £20.
he needs the car to get to work so i dont want to swap the throttle body if it buggers the ecu.

sounds a bit weird to me that a throttle body will knacker the ecu. What way is it not running right?

Before doing anything whip the throttle body off and give it a really good clean as they get caked in oil vapours which cool and go hard. This is a
fairly common problem which causes idling and hesitation problems, and will only take 10 mins or so to do with it off the car

problem with the 1.8 is the exhaust recirculating valve thingy is cast into the throttle body. on other engine sizes its separate so can be removed
and cleaned. on this one its a case of clean as much as you can in the throttle body, including pipes going to the throttle body and hope - its what i
did and it improved a hell of a lot for a while.
