EXHAUST FLOW QUESTIONS
Ok this isnt locost related and is for my daily tin top range rover classic 4.6 V8 (stroked 3.9) and as some peeps here have used this engine in
their builds they might have some advice that I am seeking. As the exhaust has started to rot away at the rear axle I was going to make a nice s/steel
side exit for it from the down pipes back but retaining the middle box as it looks ok. Its not the standard system, when I got it I ditched the rear
box, and replaced the baffled centre box with a straight through diesel item which gave it the great sound track I want to retain.
But i am unsure what sizes of tube to use and if it matters if I slightly change from the original sizes. At the moment the Y piece that attaches to
both down pipes is 2 1/8 size making it alittle over the 2 tube I have in my garage. If I used my 2 would this drastically alter the back pressure
and mess up my fueling (its EFI without lambda sensors fitted). Then this goes into 1 pipe which measures 2 Ύ tube but is only about 4 in length
before it attaches to the centre box. The rest of the system is 2 ½ to the back of the car.
So i am proposing going 2 on the Y piece, then into 2 ½, thru the box and to the side of the car. This means I only have to buy some 2 ½ elbows
and a metre of tube to sort it out. Doing this also reduces the length of the exhaust by about 2 meters.
Do any of you think this is a bad idea and would recommend different sized tubes to use or will I get away with it? Would it also be about the same
volume or am I looking at increasing the annoyance I hand out to my neighbors every morning when I start it up (currently sounds like a TVR).

Do any of the 4x4 parts suppliers do a performance exhaust for the RR? My mate deals with Britpart and a few others so could perhaps offer a good
price that would save you making one.
He seams to be able to beat nearly everyone for LR and RR parts. He specialises in chassis replacement and has people from all over sending him
LandRovers etc (including Norway and Ireland).
Even if he cant beat a price he could be worth chatting to for ideas. He gets involved with a few local lads who run various LR derived vehicles in
trials etc.

i believe rimmer bros do off teh shelf stuff aswell .
if you dont vary too much from the diameter i would say its fine as long as distances from cats/manifolds are adhered to concerning back pressure .

Thanks for the replies. I want to make my own side exit, so using standard parts is a no no really. Even the 'Y' peice will differ from
the norm as i need to move the centre can forward to allow me to get the bend in before the rear suspension.
just looked in my garage and i have a load of 2" stuff so its going to be that and then order some 2 1/2" stuff tomorrow for the side
part.
