600 cc and even 750cc will have a problem with the torque.

anything less than a 1000cc in a sports bike is going to struggle to lugg a car around.

750cc sports touring bike engines however are a different story.

Vfr engines have been used to good success, but they produce power differently to a streaming 4cyl superbike - lots of midrange to pull you along.

Afaik the clutch/gearbox on a 600/750 will be no more prone to issues than a litre bike - barnett clutch springs and decent clutch plates are the answer - well to the clutch slip anyway - nothing can help if you get a dodgy gearbox.

oh - if your looking at them for a cheap option consider also the added expence of a bespoke exhaust (commen bec engines have off the shelf exhausts at reasonable money) and also the possiblilty that you might get stuck with the install, and by venturing into new territory not be able to get much help.

Final thing to consider is oil surge - unless you 100% sure that oil surge wont effect your 600cc engine (and if your the first to use it then you will not know for sure), then you will need to fit a dry sump - at bets part of £1000ish it soon wont be a cheap option.

Plenty of cheaper litre bike engines have been used with no problems - search on here.

Where does that put the 900cc engines then ?
They seem to have no problem whatsoever doing the job.
I'm thinking ZX9R and blade.

Many thanks for the detailed response I will keep looking for the right solution. I do have the choice of a mitsubishi evo6 engine which I know would be a great option , but ( and there is always a but) it seems phisically large L27"w 25" inc inc inlet and injectors and H 27" Also there ar going to be huge problems mating a for box to it, part of the problem is the evo does not have a spigot bearing for the input shaft so there would have to be a bit made to fit in the flywheel for the spigot bearing and adaptor plates made. The evo clutch release system pulls the release bearingopposed to pushing like the ford. So I shall keep thinking of my options, Cheers Kev

Maybe I should have been more clear, these bikes are generally grouped in the litre bike category. If I was going to be pedantic I would have listed every displacement around the litre mark, as very few are exactly 1 litre. Hopefully the OP understands my point though.

A GSXR750 powered Westfield has taken quite a few well-established sprint class records in the South West (ASWMC: Castle Combe, Colerne, Llandow, etc.) over the last 2 years, often outrunning the (very) big boys. I wouldn't discount a smaller engine, just no good for pub-talk, in fact downright embarrassing. You really need a V8 for that sort of thing.
