Toyota T50 gearbox

Could someone please advise me where the Toyota T50 gearbox can be purchased. I have contacted several specialist breakers and have had no luck.

OR

Can someone talk me into using the T9 gearbox with necessary conversion to fit my 4A-GE engine?

T50's are like rocking horse teeth and hens shit,or is that the other way around?I was offered a duff one a while back, but then there are the rebuild costs to think about. It's surely better to pay for the bellhousing, etc and be able to pick up a type 9 for peanuts. There might be a cheaper (than RAW) version coming out soon If ,or when that happens I'm sure to announce it here!
Persuaded?

Ian,
You don't know of a good source of toyota engines do you?

great timing Ian now that I have installed my 4AGE mated to a Ford Type 9 box. The Raw conversion kit cost me a small fortune.

Paul,at least you have your bellhousing. What I mentioned will take a while to come to fruition. Dreckly as we say down here! Have you still got the Corolla box and driveshafts? I'm planning on opening a museum dedicated to the Corolla and MR2 gearbox.

Hi Ian,

The old AE92 is still on the drive if you need anything from it. The gearbox and drive shafts are still there. The tailgate is in good condition as well. I've no immediate plans to get rid of it as I'm still robbing clips and pipes as and when I need them. The only reason the gearbox and drive shafts are still there is to stop the front wheels falling off but they are yours if you want them.

ae92 doesnt have a t50 gearbox. the only car your likely to find with a t50 is an ae86 corolla GT. and even then youre not likely to find one. I managed to source a guy who was selling the engine and gearbox from his ae86...............he gave me and engine, gearbox, all ancilliaries and a spare gearbox and bellhousing. all for £200.

so once ive got my car finished, and checked that my gearbox is in good order, ill have a t50 for sale, probably another 4age as well. I know that doesnt help anyone at the moment but i just wanted to boast......

T50 gearbox

T 50 box - nice & light only 29 Kilos and in good standard nick should cope with 150 horses ok, but much more power will require specialist gear sets from the likes of Quaife and TRD etc. How deep are your pockets?? I believe there can be spline differences between the different phases of 4AGE - please check compatability. The majority of T50 boxes are now well past their sell by date and could prove unreliable/very costly, hence the trend towards the Ford type 9. I decided not to bother with T50. When I have sorted out the castings for my bellhousing assembly I will put up a post with details etc. It will fit both 16v & 20v variants of 4AGE.

Regards Ken
