Ford essex v6 and type 9??

Evening all. Would anyone know if a type 9 will go onto an essex v6??

The reason i ask is my mates got a 73 reliant scimitar with an auto in it and a manual is preferred. Especially as im thinking of having it.

Be easier to just stick the standard type 5 on it.

4 speeds are not too bad, especially if it's a decent sized engine. Main question is, is the final ratio correct for a direct top gearbox?

if you get the type 5 from a scimitar they often have an overdrive box - effectivly a 6 speed....... (sort of)

Im not bothered about the overdrive.

LOoking at that zetec inside site i hadent considered putting a zetec into it, Maybe thats an option as im not sure if the engine is any good or not yet.

MMM maybe a carb'd 2 litre zetec is an option.

IIRC the 2.8 Capri used a type 9 , may be of use if you can find one?

the 2.8 / 2.9 V6's are different from the older essex 3.0 V6's

but lots of people have fitted the 2.8/2.9 in a scimitar (the later ones had a 2.8 the same as the capri's)

I had the same thought about using a 1.8/2.0 zetec, but the V6 sounds right
I guess you can modify the bulkhead if needed, but I know you've got to watch the length of the engine as the steering rack etc gets in the way

The Essex 3.0 and Cologne 2.8/2.9 are different bellhousings. The cologne will fit a type 9 as rusty nuts says as the capri was fitted with one.
