I couldn't resist it ......
I'm skint - but when I saw it on ebay I just couldn't resist it - the temptation was just tooooooooooooooooo much............ I've
just won a Ford Probe 2.5 V6 for the princely sum of....£100
I allredy know they are identical externally to the 1.8 I have fitted , I just wonder how much more power I will have to play with
Its cuz I is blond , innit

isn't that hte same engine they put in the mondeo / cougar?
180bhp as standard, ford chip upgrade to 200bhp and you won't have standard ignition / exhaust restrictions .....
220 / 230 at a guess.
Go on, how far out am i?

Also, the same engine is on the 2.5 V6 mazda 626 with 165 @ 5600.
Which means i could get such an engine to fit with my MX5 gearbox.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but there are various versions of the 2.5 duratec engine.
The standard early engine produced 131 hp.
The later ST24 had 170 as standard, the st200 had 202hp.

Thanks They are maybe a bit big for the 1.8 (40mm off a Triumph T595) but they should be perfect for the 2.5 !

£100 is a hell of a cheap ride. Even if if goes pop after a few months it's cheap for the experience of running a different motor for a
while.... hell knows I'm sick to death of my Micra after 12 years

165ish bhp as standard but there are chips advertising +25bhp boost.
Reckon you should see quite a bit more than 165 with your TBs....

And no power steering , no cats , nice un-restrictive exhausts , ally flywheel and pulleys , small alternator ...................... wonder what the
`safe` rev limit is

Hiya, new here but being a long time lover/owner of many Ford probes and Mazda Mx6's (same engine) I just thought I'd say thats a good
purchase you have there!
Pretty strong engines, gearbox being the weak and feeble part, luckily I assume this bit is destined for the wheelie bin..
If you have the KL-DE engine, you do indeed have 165 bhp, if you`ve been lucky and got a KL-ZE (Jap version, Hi-comp) youll have 200bhp, if the former
then it may be of interest to you that they`re reasonably easy to supercharge to 6-7psi, without an intercooler it`ll give something like 220whp
(currently the state mine is in right now).
Im reasonably familiar with the klde by now so if you get stuck, post up and I`ll see if I can shed any light
Kev
Quick edit to say 7000rpm is really the safe limit on stock internals, 7500 if you`re feeling brave.

7500 it is then
It is just the engine I have - and that will be stripped back to a bare engine as I wont be using any of the ancillaries or injection bits - sorry if
that wasn't clear in my original post .
I wish it was a KL-ZE - but the last one of those I saw on ebay went for £275 (not much I guess , but more than I could afford at the time )
If the difference is just higher comp that could be sorted

There's a few differences unfortunatly, the intake is a different shape/length, ecu, piston etc, etc... Bit of a pain to try and make a hybrid
really.
Out of interest, will you be ditching the Vris setup, and related doodah as it makes a fair difference in available torque at big parts of the rev
range?
http://forums.probetalk.com/index.php
and
http://www.mx6.com/forums/2g-mx6-general/
are tons of help if you need it, mx6.com being the friendlier one in my opinion.
There`s a few genuine 300-500bhp klde`s on there too if you're going that far.
P.S. I'd love to know how much a bare engine weighs if you get the chance..

Hey Rusty,
I'm actually in Haverhill, 15miles south east of Cambridge, but went for the more recognisable location.
Not very far into my build but have bought an old Dutton B+ to tide me over 'till the build actually gets on the road, have to say it's
still great fun though!

I'm not using any of the stock injection at all - it will have the throttle bodies off my current 1.8 .
I just happen to have a KLDE on my engine stand destined for a Fury (that happens to live in Caimbridge ) , I do intend to weigh it as a bare
engine - I'll let you know , I suspect it is quite light without all the junk on the front
