Zetec cooling (Water Rail Raceline)
I am going to SVA with a screen heater and everything which means plumbing this in. With the bypass I need to two water connections to the bottom of
the rad in addition to the main plumbing from the housing at the back of the head. I thought I would have loads of room but not to be and I am
strucggling to get all the bits in. I may bite the bullet and buy a raceline water rail but I have a few questions:-
1. Do I still need to use a header tank?
2. How does the bypass work for this system to ensure water is moving round the system and not through the rad until the engine is up to temp or is
there no bypass ? I still need to get the heater rad return back to the pump side?
3. Is there a vent on the raceteck system that I ned to use if I still have a header tank?
Appreciate the help as always...
Anyone got a rail they want to sell before I go to raceline?
thanks

There are two mid sized outlets from the mondeo stat housing as well as the large one to top of rad and a bleed. Lower left midsize outlet is for
warmup bypass and lower right for heater. Thermostat closes lower left outlet and opens hose to top of rad when up to temperature. Lower right outlet
to heater is open all the time. I have blanked off the warmup bypass and just run the heater (mini) returning to lower hose. Don't have any over
or under heating issues.
Missread your post. Raceline rail uses an elbow off the rail for heater and back to bottom hose. I would use this as the warmup bypass. There is no
provision for a thermostaticaly controlled warmup bypass but you could plumb in another elbow and use that but it will be always open and there may be
under/overcooling issues. There is also a problem in that the thermostat is down one end of the rail in a poor flow area when closed and may be slow
to react. Drilling a couple of 3mm holes in it should sort that. Racelines instructions used to advise no header but can easily be done.
