Engine Oil for CVH
Been search around and asking on a Ford forum (passionford - very odd) but i thought i would ask here instead. Possablty a bit more reliable!
Ive got what i believe is a 1.9l cvh (based on a bored and stroked 1.6) and apprently its about due for an oil change (previous owner did it about
twice a year to be sure).
General suggestions are semi-synth 10w40 or 15w40 for smoke engines.
- But theres all suggestions of thicker 15w60 or 20w50 wieghts such as valvoline vr1.
I believe part of it may be dependant on whether you have hydraulic lifters or not, as they can pump up on thicker oil apprently. So thats something
to look out. That and asking what the previous owner was using.

Just looked in the Haynes manual for 1600 CVH engined XR3.
Multigrade engine oil
SAE 10W/30
Duckhams recommendation
Duckhams QXR,Hypergrade or 10W/40
The Ford chart states
SEA 5W/30 - 20W/50 dependant on ambiant temperature.

Sounds any semi synth between 5w30 and 20w50 then! Depending on temp...
It will be used all year round, in england. Track days and road use.

I have a 2ltr CVH and use a 10W40 Semi Synth....It has kept the engine in perfect condition.....The reason they can be a bit 'sensative'
is because of the hydraulic lifters, but a good 10W40 will be perfect :-)
The other reason for changing the oil regulary is the feed to the cams can get clogged, as soon as that happens, the cam will be destroyed in no time,
taking the lifters with it........
Good luck :-)
