2001 R1 Engine help

I have a 2001 5JJ R1 engine in my car which runs like a bag of doo doo at the moment taking it to the RR on saturday morning to have the carbs set up etc.

There is a black gadjet which i think is the exup valve which has the wires connected to the loom but on the underneath there is a round wheel which turns left to right like a solenoid,it looks like it is designed to have a cable, like a throttle cable attatched to it.

Should this be connected to something?? apart from the loom.

Thanks

it does have cables attached to it when its on the bike.

you can completely remove the exup valve from the engine with no adverse affects to the running of it.. the only thing you'll get is an error code on your dash, but that can be removed with a simple circuit.

The exup valve is operated by cables, so the motor sits somewhere inside the bike and operates the valve in the exhaust remotely.

Just fasten it down out of the way and et it spin and whir to it's hearts content.

What air filter are you usung and have you changed the carb needles?

It would have been connected up in the exhaust of the bike but isnt used in a car application. Have you fitted a Dynojet kit at all?? We did 001Ben's 2001 R1 last weekend and it ran miles better afterwards. Thats getting rolling roaded on Monday anyway.

For comparrison, holes blocked off, 144 main jets fitted, new needles from TTS dynojet kit fitted - clip on 3rd groove, 4 turns out on the idle mixture across all 4 carbs.

Thanks for that Davey D

I doesnt seam to want to rev above 6000rpm and as lumpy as hell getting there.
I was told by a bike breaker that it sounds like the exup valve isnt connected.

Any ideas

Nowt to do with the exup valve - that might be an issue on the bike where it affects the exhaust.

More likely the carbs need adjusting to suit the new application - remember you're using a different exhaust than the bike, so will need to do the needles/jets and might as well tackle the air filter while you're at it. TTS do a BEC specific jet/needle kit thats a doddle to fit (even I managed it without firking it up!)

Hello All

Well following on from the above,i took my car to Bogg Bros this morning and after 3 hours setting up and a great morning with Dave,Steve and Pete my car is now Awesume!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was basically running on 2 cylinders when i took it in.
After checking coils etc spark at the plugs etc,the carbs were basically all over the place!!!
Steve took the carb's off and cleaned everything two off the had blocked jets due to petrol clogging from being stood with the previous owner.odd jets in two carbs and needles not set right.

After everthing had been cleaned and jetted correctly they were refitted and started on the button but running very weak on the rollers, tried differant jets and ended up with 180 from the dynojet kit and new needles, previous owner had also blocked some holes which were causing problems.

All refitted and tested on the rollers, when i came out of the loo Steve and Pete were sat on the back of the car trying to stop it wheel spinning on the rollers!!!! and it sounded fantastic!!
The result was 177 BHP at the wheels and i actually saw it nudge 180.
also showed that my speedo was 15mph out so i need to try and workout how to reset on the speedo healer.

The car now fly's!! have trouble stopping it wheel spinning in the first 3 gears.

I have got to say a big thanks to the guy's at bogg bros who really worked hard to get this just right today and they where very enthuiastic about the car and making it right which is rare in garages these day's.
