Engine mount rising plates
I've got my exhaust on the Indy now (pinto engine) , but the nbr 4 pipe is a tight fit against the chassis member.
Rather than hack the tube (tried bending it but can't) I thought of one of two options:
A) flatten the bottom of nbr 4 pipe to give a bit of clearance
B) make up some 5-5mm spacer plates between the engine mounts and the mount rubbers to raise the whole engine 5-6mm and give just enough room to get
exhaust wrap under. These would be the same surface area as the MK mount rubbers.
Anyone had a go at this before, or spot something obviously stupid about it that I've missed?
I expect the end of the gear box may pitch down slightly but I'm hoping with just a 5-6mm lift the result won't be too much to worry
about.

hi, i have lifted my engine one side and put spacers under the engine mounts to clear chassis rail and body work. by about 6-8mm. it seems to be fine,
not throught the sva yet or on the road but the test drive was ok.
thanks

Cool.
I'm using GBS exhausts from a Zero. Not bad as stainless steel pipes & can go for £245. Just that nbr 4 pipe could do with a slight
revision.
If I could get it chopped and moved that would solve the problem, but I think that may be a bigger PITA than just moving the engine slightly.
I think your idea of just one spacer should work well as it will pitch the pipes even higher for a 6mm spacer.
I guess I could loosen off the gearbox mounts slightly then do them up again to take any stresses off them.

Just to clarify, are you building an MK with MK supplied engine mounts and exhaust? (If so then you shouldn't have that problem)

No, MK mounts, but a GBS Zero exhaust system.
I would suspect that the zero mounts the engine slightly higher, by a few mms. I could get the exhaust system modified, but if a simple riser plate
will do the job without any detremental effect then thats what I'll go for.

Cool. I've ordered 4, 6mm stainless plates the same dimensions as the rubber mount.
That allows sufficent exposed thread + if 6mm is sufficient then I'll leave it at that.
I have been offered for them to see what they can do with the pipes, but if I start getting them bent and cut I don't want them looking a bit
crappy as they look rather nice as is....and on top of that, if I go over to GBS I know I'll end up comming home with a bike carb conversion kit

I was thinking also about using the sierra rubber mounts. They would give a 40mm rise over the existing rubbers.
Assuming (not measured yet) a total length between the shock mounts and the end of the gearbox of 1 meter that would give a pitch of approx 2.3
degrees which I would think on the grand scale of things is near to SFA until it starts going at silly speeds.
