I have just taken a new job in Edin, so will be moving up from Oxford in the next 2-3 months.
So where are the good places to live? (Prefer outside of Edin with a good train connection into the city.)
And where do all my fellow locosters live?
good choice
plenty of good places, it'd be quicker to list the bad ones
which part of the city are you going to be working in ?
and what kind of house are you looking for ?

Come and live in my workshop train station 100 mts down the hill
The wife told me last night she would move to Scotland in a heartbeat, she's got relatives in Aviemore and loves it up there, I've never been

Are you looking to buy or rent?
If buying, then it wouldn't be a daft idea to look across the bridge towards Fife... Dunfermline, Dalgety Bay, etc. Much more bang for your buck
and good train links (20 mins to Edinburgh city centre).
If renting, then it's much of a muchness.
Edinburgh suburbs to avoid:
Wester Hailes
Sighthill
Broomhouse
Drylaw
Niddrie
Craigmillar
West Lothian, excellent value for money 2 train stations big shopping centre and 20 mins drive to Edinburgh by car if you prefer. Dont buy in Edinburgh its overpriced, over rated and stinks o' pish.

We will be renting for starters, while we get to know the area in more detail.
The plan is then to buy in a few years.
However we would prefer to live outside anyway, a 20 minute train journey sounds good.
have a look here: ESPC and see if anything takes your fancy

I was also gonna put forward outskirts of Glasgow, I found it amazing when I lived there how quickly it turned into villages, all with good transport
links.
Or you could move to the Marchant city and drive a 4x4 (A little musical reference for you)
unfortunatly transport into edinburgh from all the wee towns & villages isn't quite as good/universal as glasgow

Nice to see someone got the reference.
There are good bus routes between Glasgow and Edimburgh and alot of the places inbetween, not as good as a train though granted.

Trust me, I can and have been more Cryptic with references. I just can't help myself. TBH I only noted it was a reference so people wouldn't think I was making some snide remark about people from the Merchant City (I lived there for a year myself, Great place to live but I prefered living in Garnett Hill).
