A bit of a long shot but does anybody have a windows xp laptop that they are not using that I could buy.

I have a couple of win98 laptops (with serial port) if they might help.

cost would be cover postage and maybe a beer.

Schrodinger - 20/7/24 at 08:54 PM

that would be fine do they have usb ports?
Let me know howmuch the postage will be and where you want the money sent to and I'll get it to you.
By the way I live in Aviemore PH22 1UL check the postage as it can be pricey for the Highlands,

I so miss XP

The current Windows totally sucks, designed by total idiots. If there was a button on the keyboard that sent a painful electric shock direct to the programmers it would be worn down to a stub

thinkpad 600e

only guarantee is the battery is junk,
cmos battery needs replacement, (forgets time and date, need to enter date and reboot)
1 usb port
1 serial port
no built in networking, so would need usb or pcmcia. (I do have a pcmcia wifi card)
win 98 (se I think)
if prompted for password just hit cancel.
hdd: ~6GB 2.5" ide

to take things further, contact me by u2u/pm (personal message on this site)

I still use a win98 box to talk to my Dunnell ECU - it could be worse - I used to have a customer that bought old PCs of EBAY as there were stuck using XP due to some old business software,...

not ideal

my current m/c doesn't even have any ports except USB-C is this progress??

I might have a couple of old ones in the attic somewhere that I think are XP (I'll need to check, some might be win7) defiantly have USB though and could easily run XP (or 98, 2000, win7 etc..)

no idea what the specs are - they are the wifes / in-laws old ones - pretty basic cheap ones nothing fancy

- also happy for you to collect one if your down near Edinburgh anytime soonish
(I imagine the postage will be more than these are worth)

Win XP was a loooooong time ago. Work PC's and laptops have to keep up with Microsofts latest (supported) offerings (insurance reasons I believe). So on we march. Win 11 at the moment and it all seems to work OK.

Our home laptop is Win 10 and sooooooo slow (i3 and very old). probably due for the attic some time soon and a replacement with Win 11 (or 12 or.....). on we march.

only just seen you asking for postage charge...(think you edited the post after I read it ;-( )

I had a look at postage costs, the laptops weigh 2.5kg each plus psu
looking at po site they would deliver to highlands via evri at £10, or dpd (nominal next day...) at £16.07 - for one or two laptops and psu.

edit kg, not kb :-)
edit 2:
for uk mainland 1 laptop+psu dpd next day £10, plus something toward packing.

edit 3:
I have several of these and I would prefer to send them to people who pay the delivery costs, rather than landfill!
