The old throttle cable on my midget was very stiff - as if it was rusty - so i replaced it. Only today have i been able to take it for a spin with the new one. It was fine for about 4 - 5 miles then the new one started to get very stiff. I managed to get home on the choke (made interesting driving )
The pedal itself is fine and the carb end also operates smoothly when operated by hand so i dont know what else to do.

Any idea's?

Check the engine earths, this is an old one. Usually the earth strap corrodes and the throttle/choke cable become the new earts and promptly melt.

Failing that, check to see if you have any tight bends or kinks in the cable.

put a jag engine in it!!!!!

has the outer of the cable come loose from whatever it braces against and both cables are moving?

so when you were pressing the pedal you were just trying to pull both inner and outer sleve through the bulkehad rather than 1 inside the other.. that would also give you little or no throttle to get home on.

If it started ok but got stiff then it's probably an engine earth problem.

Alternatively if it goes close to the exhaust and has a nylon/plastic liner they can melt, in which case you want a cheap cable!
