Goodwood Festival of Speed - hints and tips?
Folks,
Off to goodwood on friday - any hints and tips (including the obvious as i've booked a day off work and am doing a reasonable amount of miles to
get there)

We're off too, get there as early as poss and leave as late as poss to avoid the queues. We've got a hotel for both nights as it's
a fair old drive from Leeds!!

Get their early, and look round the paddocks of race cars first, before it gets too crowded. Then worry about the village green and stalls (if you
ever get there)

Take your own food, drink & an umbrella?
Usually burgers etc available.
Lots of car related stalls so maybe a deep wallet too? 
I'll be there, but still toying with taking the Motaleira. Two concerns are the weather and leaving the car unattended in an open field
carpark............
Russ Bost is taking his Furore so look out for his car.

Unfortunately this event, as fanastic as it is, has grown very large. You need to decide what your preferred viewing will be - if you trek up the hill
to watch the rally stuff (brilliant!) you will enevitably miss some stuff that happens nearer the house. Also, although the outlet food / drink is
good quality, it isn't cheap! Lastly don't use the A27 approaches - big queues.

camping overnight 20 minutes away. Planning on leaving camp site at 7am (earliest they'll let me leave).
As for what time am I leaving at the end of the day ..... well dunno, was thinking of driving home (3 to 4 hours drive) or heading back to the camp
site.

My son and i have stuck to the same formula for the show which seems to work for us anyway.
1/ get there early 7 am entrance.
2/take picnic plenty of water if hot.
3/comfortable shoes(lots of walking)
We normally hit the pits/paddock first thing before all the crowds, then head past the house and round the back of the cartier elegance car parade and
straight into the supercar area (stunning)
While the speed runs were starting we make tracks up to the top of the hill and the rally section which my son loved, he had never seen a Mk1/2 escort
in rally form and i think he was pretty surprised with all that tail out and handbrake turns
Back down the hill for a sit down and lunch while having a look at the speed runs, then into the centre for the show area and stools.
To be honest its a pretty hard call to judge where to be at any given time,the paddock is great the start line also, you can end up finding a good
view point for pics and just stay there. Its just one of those events that makes you want to come back next year and the year after.

3 book for next year u will love it.
4 seriously i have been twice and its the best days entertainment u can have. u must see the f1 teams in the garage and at the start line. i am at
warwick so i now that route is your best bet. graham

The programme does give you info on the cars running as well as drivers/owners, but its a tenner and even though you usually get an earpiece radio
telling you whats going on you get the same info on the tannoy everywhere you go all day long.

Anyone fancy trying to meet up at a set time and place during the day ?
I am there with ChrisS, think i might have to take the tintop as i havn't cured my fueling issue yet.

some mates and i went last year and it was the best single event we have ever been too, better than any single wrc, f1, autosport, renault fest, btcc,
leman, motorshow. we camped at goodwood.
1. its huge and you will struggle to see it all in a day, be prepared to miss some stuff.
2. its a long way, even with the tractors to the rally stage and obviousley back especially if you have to q for the tractor trains.
3. we watched a lot from the start line as you see things at full Db's and get to see them shoot off, also get the bonus of seeing the warm
tyres etc in the pre start line area.
4. a lot of the hill stuff is the repeated so know what you want to watch.
5. rally pits are great, lots of stars around.
6. always be on the lookout, legends are everywhere, queing nect to you walking along side etc.
7. personally FOS tech wasn't great
8. cartier style deluxe and supercar paddock were great. F1 car runs and the serious hill competitors and well worth watching on the hill - last year
it was a 1980's silk cut jag -
in summary. food expensive, lots of walking, some of the greatness is loss in the scale of the whole thing. park grandstand and startline are best
vantage points of the hill

ohh and wacky racers are funny.
been a bit of a rush job really, bodged it all together in just 5 1/2 years.

Be prepared if you take your open top car and leave it in the very dry field it will be covered in dust by the time you get back to it.
If you're not living life on the edge you're taking up too much room.
