Paint matching
Seems there's no match out there for my paintwork on my tin-top. It's meant to be Toyota 040 Superwhite. However some places list it as
superwhite 2. Never able to make a decision in a shop under fake light I took a petrol cap to a local company and got them to match it but it was
miles off (too grey) when buffed up. So this time I went to Halfords and bought the off-the-shelf aerosol and that was the same. This leaves me with a
few options:
1) Keep trying to find a match, possibly never managing.
2) Re-cover the whole car, not appealing and while the old paint is getting thin in places, I like it white.
3) Go for rally livery instead and hope the insurance don't batter me.
Anyone any tips on finding a better match?

The guy to speak to would be Paul Woods - www.woodsport.org. They're specialists in MR2's (which I assume this is, as super white was an
MR2 colour) and have a paint shop on the premises.
I'm pretty sure his own MR2 is super white and has had plenty of bodywork over the years, so if he doesn't know how to match it I'll
be very suprised.

Is it possible its been resprayed in its life. Happened to me on an old car. Might explain the mystery.

There is a paint supplier west of Edinburgh I use ,you can take the car to him, and he matches the colour. He makes the paint up for you while you
wait.

reminds me of a story my dad told me about a friends beetle.
The car was yellow so they names it buttercup and wrote it on the car. It needed a new wing and for reason the mechanics assumed that because it said
buttercup on the dash that was the paint colour when it was another yellow so when it dried it was very obviously the wrong colour.

Chris - I'll check him out, it's a GT4 but IIRC the same superwhite, it was used from '87 to about 97 across the whole range of
toyotas (there were a couple of others but they're obviously very different). But he's a good contact, I'll have a word.
macc man, possible but they would have to have had a paint that was almost identical to original but not quite and not left any obvious areas of old
paint/overspray etc. Oh, and a replacement fuel flap off another white Four matches the body just fine IIRC... now I'm going to have to dig that
out and check!
Toniq - would love to but it's SORN currently, but I could take a wing over I suppose.

There was a website I used to find my paint colour... And then buy it..
If you get no joy elsewhere I'd seriously think about getting a complete respray in the colour you find is closest
