I presume this isn't right?

Forgive me if I'm missing something but I am new to carbs, please have a look at the video below. I think the throttle and choke cable linkages aren't working correctly but maybe I am missing something?

This looks like a twin choke weber to me, the top two butterfly's are the chokes with the operating linkage located on the side as first demonstrated, the second linkage he moves operates the the throttle butterfly's located in the bottom of the carb which are not shown......

The top are the choke flaps. The throttle butterflies are further inside the carb.

Looks like to works fine.

Your carb looks like it had an auto choke that has been DIYed to manual.

Excellent. I did think maybe there was a second set of butterlies but I just had them apart to fix the movement of the choke set as they were getting stuck and didn't see them. They must be further in than I went. Glad to hear the operation Of the choke set is right. Can get these fitted when the manifold gaskets turn up

Seabass is spot on, the top plates are choke plates and your carb has been fitted with a manual choke conversion kit. If you look down into the carb you will see the throttle butterfly plates. One opens first and then the other, I think it's the one nearest the choke mech that opens first.

Am I right in thinking as it's manual choke I don't need to run the coolant system to the manifold/carb?

Not to the carb if you have a manual choke. On a xflow there is a coolant passage from the head and through the manifold, which presumably on an Escort would have fed the internal heater and acted as the thermostat bypass while the thermostat was closed. On my Westfield I have that connected to the water pump top outlet, on the racing Locost it is blocked off but then I do not have a thermostat either.

Cheers. Now you've said that I think there may well be collant pipes attached to the manifold, would this be right on a pinto?

I'm getting there, slowly...
