Cheapest way get cars transported
Hallo all,
I am moving house from the Preston area to down near the Lizard in Cornwall in 2 weeks time....what's the cheapest way to get my BMW 750 and Jag
XJR transported down there? They both need a 'tickle' to make them ready for that length of journey (400 miles) and the Jag has no MOT at
the moment so I don't really want to drive them down as I am down in Cornwall working during the week and don't have the time to spend on
them at the moment...
I have had some quotes from an online shipping agency, the cheapest quote is £400 each...(apart from one quote of £350 for both which subsequently
appeared to be a scam), I have entertained renting a trailer and doing the trip twice....this maybe the best way, apart from losing about 3 days of my
life? 
I also have to tow a caravan and a boat on a trailer down, I had planned to do this during my next two trips down before the big move.....
Anyone think that £400 a vehicle is reasonable? I know it would be about £120 in fuel each if I was able to drive them down anyway...

when you look at it £400 is cheap it will cost you over £100 for juice an as you say lose 2 days of your life that you could do some other moving
Life is like a bowl of fruit, funny how all the weird looking ones are left alone

This is the reply I got off him
1518 miles to go there twice with the two cars.
60 gallons at 25mpg
270 litres
400 quid
BMW is 1700kg which puts it very close to 2t on the back
Jag prob the same.
£400ea is about right but that's still not a nice job unless I fix the Disco in time and even if I do, 10 fuel stops.
Probably need some hotels as well.
See what he says to £750 all in

Try mad mark on Jago club forum he trades as Ripley recovery. (Deryshire based)and has 0quite a0 fleet of trucks0 n trailers

He moved my roadster for me. Former haulage company scaled down to just car movements to make some money. Very heplful, very proffesional with a tilt
bed trailer. and full winching facilities. Van is full of all the right gear and he will let you fill it with stuff if you want! He does a lot of work
all across the country including 'special' moves for BMW and the likes. Would highly reccomend.

the MOT'd one... why not ask a mate (with AA cover to drive it?) if it makes it all well and good, if not it gets carried on the back of an AA
truck for free... you'd even save the petrol.
better yet borrow a trailer, and get the MOT'd one to pull the other then if it breaks, free lift for both....

I think £400 is good. Hiring a transporter n trailer would cost £200 plus fuel you don't save much doing it yourself

Thanks for all your replies and suggestions! Very much appreciated.
It would now appear that I have to drive up and down twice before we move end of next week...I'll hire a trailer and shift them one at a time
seeing as I am doing the mileage anyway now....just means doing it at 60mph......
(Fesy, these are appreciating future classics I'll have you know.... Scrap value about £350, current state value about £375....)
