Alternator Bracket Photo

Anyone got a photo they can put up or email to me of a DIY or aftermarket alternator mounting bracket to mount alternator on ST170 engine. It's not the original alternator, it's a smaller one.

No photo I'm afraid, but I made mine from a bit of 50mm x 50mm steel angle.

1. Drilled some holes to mount it to the Pinto engine block where the Pinto alternator bracket fitted.
2. Dilled a hole to mount the smaller alternator on the other face.
3. Used the OEM alternator tensioner bar and fitting hardware.
4. Spray the bracket over with black satin.
5. Couple of hours graft and it was done.

This is on my blacktop, you will need a different tensioning bracket if you still have the plastic inlet though.

I made the tensioning and mounting brackets, there is an m10 countersunk bolt under the left guide roller that stiffens the bracket and stops it from stress cracking, it goes through the lower belt cover casting in place of an original bolt.
If you make a ply/mdf mockup first it will make getting the boltholes and alignment right first time for the real part, i had to alter mine due to the belt getting too close while tensioning at the first attempt.

I bought the upper guide roller bracket as it was cheap enough, i assume you may already have one in place.

I did buy a larger pulley to bring down the ratio, iirc it was 65mm which gives a 2:1 ratio and should be ok for most states of tune unless you're heading over 9000rpm!

I machined mine from a lump of Aluminium (saw and drill)

A piece of 25mm bar 10mm thick. Two tabs out of the same material. You need two washers on the back as the waterpump is not flush to the block. I then brace it on the cover. I then turn up some spacers to suit.

If you are feeling flush and want of the shelf then Retrofords offering is very nice indeed.

Top bracket for the torque arm is more challenging depending on what manifold you have.
