Rather than hijack r1-pete's thread below re no pleasure in driving I have opened this thread as I am contemplating getting a detector/jammer.

What has the member's experience of this been and any advise.

I am of course aware of the potential legal problems in some countries.

If you read Driver by Alex Roy, that would suggest that the decent ones are completely foolproof and almost make you invincible. I have a friend who has one and it's very good, never missed one so far but is also a bit over sensitive and finds stuff that doesn't seem to exist?!?

i think i remember seeing a fifth gear a while back where they had a jammer on, i think it was essentially a garage door remote, it blocked radar guns, i think youd get done if you dont have the garage doors too though!
as for detection things, road angels are really good, my dads used one for yonks, and its never missed a thing

I've got a detector (Snooper S3, now no longer legal) and its great fro Gatso's and laser guns but no good for Specs or the inductive loop type. It does have the advantage over a sat'nav system in that it detects the active camera rather than everywhere a camera is (or ever has been). It's also great for finding Supermarkets in places you don't know as it picks up the automatic doors long before you see the shop!

hmmm, I am rather sceptical about these.

surely for mobile laser and radar guns, by the time the device has detected the gun, the police have clocked the speed and it is too late to slow down.

I can see that they could jam the radar but then the police would be wise and will get you for that?

Can't see how they can jam a laser though. Maybe I should google.....

These devices will lull into a sense of false security so you will get done eventually.

Insead of buying one, put the money into a high interest bank account to pay the fine and increase in insurance premuiims when the time comes...

I was always led to believe that if your detector picks up a laser signal it is already too late. It's not like radar were there is scatter that you can pick up - If it hits you it is measuring you.
A copper also once told me that anything that jams, scrambles etc can be construed as obstructing a police officer in the course of his duty or whatever the proper name is for the offence.

Snooper claim the laser detector triggers up the 1k from the gun and the gun is only accurate from 500m. The laser detector has only gone off twice on me. Both times on the motorway and in both cases the officer turned out to be on a bridge almost a mile away. I didn't get a ticket on either occation.

When I've got it in use I find I drive slower overall not just near cameras. The regular false alerts (auto'doors, some power lines, etc) serve as a regular reminder to watch my speed.
