ok. i live in sutterton between spalding and boston, i want to go to stoneliegh, now should i go in the indy or the tin top

indy was sva'd wednesday and passed and i will have reg plates and tax next week 25th.

the car hasnt had a shake down and wont get much of one before the show the engine is a refurbed 88 nissan new turbo with 0 miles using old bits of donor hose i found laying around at scrap yards, do i chance the 90 miles there and 90 miles back or do i go in the tin top run a few miles on the indy then go to newark in the indy as its first show

is it worth the risk of being stranded on the a14 or m6 ?

Yes - take your mobile and breakdown recovery card.

Worst that will happen is a breakdown with a couple of hours wait and a relay home (assuming nothing drastic happens!).

Best that can happen is a fabulous run out in your new motor that you painstakingly built yourself. Plus lots of admiriation (for the car!) at the show.

Worth the risk I reckon.

Go for it - take some spares and tools.

I've had a couple of minor things go wrong since I passed my SVA, but nothing that would stop me doing a 160 mile round trip.

Except rain as Phil says!

I went from Newcastle to Stoneleigh and back in a day last year. Even the fact that it absolutely ch*cked it down on the way home in the evening (between Leeds and Ncle) it was a great day out.

I know I'll be trying to make it in the Indy again this year!

I am going to go in mine unless it's absolutely hammering it down!

I went for a longish spin (at pretty much hammering it everywhere speeds) last night and my gearchange mechanism failed meaning that I had to drive the last 25 miles or so home in 3rd gear!

So much for being told I didn't need a lock nut on the rose jointed Ali rods!

I went through 4 sets of lights and 3 roundabouts, and a couple of constructive turns nearer to home to avoid a very very twisty very uphill bit of road, I made it back without a stop/start!!!

so do it, DO IT!

I would definatly avoid motorways if you can, very dangerous places in a 7.
AA Relay a definate must,
Then watch out for the weather. like Phil suggests.
By the way I only live 5 miles from Stoneleigh so if you want to know what the real time weather is I can give it.

congrats on the pass btw, i should be getting my reg through by the end of next week, only had dvla 'inspection' yesterday. After that, weather permitting, i will be using it to go everywhere! As others have said, you are gonna have a mobile on you, just take a few tools and some water/oil etc and have fun!

if you drove it to and from SVA & registrtion inspection, then no reason why it shouldn;'t make it to stoney lee.

i didnt drive it just incase they said sorry mate its not safe, it went on a trailer as it was a 74 mile return trip

not a sensible question at all. Bring some tools, mobile phone and just use the car, what else did you build it for?

If the weathers ok then theres no reason not to do it. It sonly if the weathers poor that the tintop comes out for these events

I'll be going in mine, if I can fit and wire in the new injection engine, something which I've never had to do before.

I should be going in mine if I manage to finish the injection system and map the ecu . Hasn't been driven since engina was rebuilt . What did you build it for if not for driving?

I will also be going in mine with new engine fitted. Just got it started this week and cant start mapping until 1st of may as its not taxed and i dont want to tax it until the start of the month.
I may well be mapping it on the way there and back.

Drive it to the show. You know you want to.
I took mine to Le Mans not long after the SVA. The only way you will find any problems is to put some miles on it.
Get some breakdown cover and enjoy the drive.
