Jimbob - 20/6/08 at 04:38 PM

gutted for you
What happened?

Jubal - 20/6/08 at 04:39 PM

If it was not your fault then I have just taken on board a new customer, a firm of solicitors who specialise in no fault claims. u2u me if you want their details. Very nice people, given the industry they are in!

thepest - 20/6/08 at 04:49 PM

I can understand how badly you feel, as long as you're not hurt, it can be repaired dont worry

andyharding - 20/6/08 at 04:51 PM

Hope you are ok and the idiot that wasn't looking where they were going is insured!

Ivan - 20/6/08 at 04:52 PM

Ouch - hope you, and passenger if any, weren't hurt.

I am sure many of us would be interested to know what hit you, how hard they hit you and if you had the brakes on or where just standing there. I guess what I'm getting to is the issue of fuel tank safety in a rear end - should we be concerned or does it appear that the locost is less vulnerable than we think.

Your first hand impressions would be of value.

dave1888 - 20/6/08 at 04:53 PM

I just about got T-Boned last night, driver sat watching me and decided to pull out from a junction. At least i know my brakes work.

donut - 20/6/08 at 04:58 PM

Jeeeeze! Hope you're ok mate. What a bummer. Hope you get it sorted without too much hassle.

Good luck mate.

speedyxjs - 20/6/08 at 05:06 PM

na the tubes are so thin at the back the main frame will be fine, superficial damage, bet its fixed in a week. Make sure you claim for whiplash

owelly - 20/6/08 at 05:25 PM

Double-much arse biscuits!!
And just when the weather is picking up.....

graememk - 20/6/08 at 05:26 PM

if they hit you its very hard for the other party to place blame, you should be following as a safe distance.

Stuart_B - 20/6/08 at 05:52 PM

i hope you are ok.

JUD - 20/6/08 at 06:05 PM

whitestu - 20/6/08 at 06:07 PM

Nightmare - hope you are OK

UncleFista - 20/6/08 at 06:22 PM

I'm fine, just a bit of a bump to the back of the head (big thanks to Tritons high-back seat for saving me from whiplash).

I stopped at a zebra crossing to let a couple of blokes cross, I checked my mirrors and saw another car stop behind me leaving a nice gap, a few seconds later I heard tyres screeching and braced.

Tosspot hit the car behind me at speed and twatted it into me pushing me well over the crossing.

In the confusion, I didn't notice that the bloke who caused the crash had overtaken us and parked up 30 yds down the road, I saw him walk into a garden (not knowing he was the bloke who crashed) a couple of minutes later, another bloke came out of the garden asking who the bloke was who had just climbed his back garden wall...

Yup, he'd done a runner, he was a bit fat and at least 50 yrs old !

Anyway, after getting the bloke behind's car going and the cop turning up a half-hour later and taking statements, there was just the police and me and my bro (turned up after a phone call a good ten minutes before plod). We were trying to find the number of a recovery firm when lo-and-behold a recovery truck pulled up.
My brother ran to catch him and try and get him to recover us, but he was lokking for a red peugeot, in fact he was looking for the red peugeot that had been crashed and dumped.

Turns out, the car belongs to him, a new employee had borrowed it to go to a probation meeting.. So no doubt he's not insured, the police tell us we need to claim from the poor blameless bloke who was behind me, and I'm going to, seems unfair, but it was only a year ago I was hit by "another" uninsured driver and we ended up paying for repairs ourselves. Not again...

Damage seems contained to the rear panel/frame with the rear arches almost untouched (although one flew through the air), fuel tank was bent like a 'nana but only dribbled, probably the worst bit of the whole thing was watching a tank of petrol pour down the drain

chrsgrain - 20/6/08 at 06:29 PM

My wife was the 'middle' car in a similar accident not long back, and I think the 'front' car claimed off her insurance (company car so no dramas)... so you might be lucky - here's hoping....

If they know who it was - will the plod do anything about driving without insurance, not stopping at an accident etc etc??

At least you are OK and the car isn't too bad (looks like Mr Whippy was right! )

Chris

RoadkillUK - 20/6/08 at 06:39 PM

The bloke who took the car back home still charged me £40

Not sure what to do about the car this weekend, I suppose we need to do is get in touch with the other blokes insurance company before we start to fix it.

Anyone had experience of claiming for your 'kitcar' ?

Anyway, here are some more pics

Ditto with me - I was number 2 in a 4 car shunt on the M40. Everybody claimed of the person behind them.

Good to know you are OK. The kn0b must have been going pretty quick to do that much damage - presumably in a 30 limit?

Undue care and attention (if that charge still exists), no insurance, leaving the scene of an accident, I hope the fuzz are after him.

Martin

Mr Whippy - 20/6/08 at 06:48 PM

superb so the guy who hit you is going to get the book thown at him as are his mates for trying to sneak the car away

make sure you take plenty of pictures of the car, then just fix it up asap to enjoy the summer.

remember you DO have whiplash

chrsgrain - 20/6/08 at 06:51 PM

One of the Dax owners club guys had a recent claim after his car switched ends on him in some ice....

Had to get an insurance assessor round, but got all the parts paid for and also paid for his labour at quite a sensible hourly rate (£15 per hour, and he did the estimate of the number of hours it would take to fix - he had to argue to get this, but you would be within your rights to take it to a garage to get it fixed, and they would charge the insurance company labour - so no different really)

Chris

joneh - 20/6/08 at 07:07 PM

I crashed into a car and knocked it into anothe car and they both claimed off me. Which I think is right as it was my fault. Pass it to insurance and let them sort it.

johnston - 20/6/08 at 09:29 PM

Just out of interest and to help convince the mrs these things are safe.

Did you build your own chassis or buy it?

David Jenkins - 20/6/08 at 09:32 PM

Ouch!

Whichever way you look at it, that was a hard collision. It was good to see that (a) the car absorbed the blow, and (b) the tank didn't get damaged. Make sure that you go to a quack and get yourself checked out - if you leave it too long then their lawyers can say that "it can't have been that bad if you left it so long." If you go for a check-up then you've started the process.

BTW, when I got rear-ended (ooer!) I ended up with about £1500 compensation...

graememk - 20/6/08 at 09:47 PM

i would also get your neck checked out just incase

owelly - 20/6/08 at 11:16 PM

Coose had a claim with his Striker. He got an estimate for all the parts needed and agreed with the assessor/claims adjuster an agreeable sum for him to do the work himself. I seem to remember the car looking a lot better after it was finished.....
I work with a guy who got bumped from behind, by a car that was bumped from behind, by an drunk driver. My mate claimed off the middle innocent party but she couldn't claim because the drunk wasn't insured!
Get advise. And get the names of all the people you speak to on the end of the phone. Keep a diary. You'll thank me if it all goes pear shaped.
Glad you're OK. I wonder if the crash has damaged your axle tube.......?

RoadkillUK - 21/6/08 at 12:43 PM

Thanks all.

David, the tank did get bent and there was a small leak on one side. It wasn't a bad as it was going for quite some time before we empited it.

The damage seems to be mainly just what you can see, didn't damage the rear axle mounts or any of the rear suspension.

If we had the steel and ali and was ok by the insurance company, then I'm sure it would be back on the road next week.

I'll post back when I know more.

UncleFista - 21/5/09 at 08:12 PM

Thread ressurrection !

After almost a year of wrangling with insurance companies and waiting for plod to get their collective fingers out, we were paid out by the MIB.

Bloke at fault was a banned driver, now disappeared, so our legal cover claimed from MIB, we claimed for £680, but, since the accident was before the 1st Jan this year[1], there's a £300 excess, so we ended up with £380.....

It paid for materials and bits at least, I'd have preferred the driver at fault to be strung up by his knackers, but you can't have everything.

[1] There's no excess to pay for MIB claims since the beginning of this year.

Ninehigh - 23/5/09 at 12:53 AM

I was wondering why that car looked familiar, and how someone else managed to get your dinged car on their avatar months before it got dinged!

So the guy who turned up with the towtruck owned the car that caused it? In which case surely he knows who was driving it... He should cop for the cash then and find the anus "driver" and break his thumbs for it.. If I was the middle driver I'd be going apesh*t over it
